Residential School Research Project

SCO’s Residential School Research Project supports Survivors and intergenerational Survivors in searching for their residential school, day school, Indian hospital, tuberculosis sanatorium, and other institutional records. The Research Project will also assist in locating disappeared First Nations children and in finding unmarked graves.

SCO research staff have expertise in searching Library and Archives Canada, church records, university archives, and vital statistics for birth, marriage and death records, as well as Hudson’s Bay Company records to help locate family members and repatriate family history.

Help with Accessing Records

If you or a family member would like to search for records, please complete the forms below and submit them to us. If you have any questions, contact us at the bottom of this page. We are also happy to help you with these forms!

The research team will also work with federal and provincial governments to release all historical documents and records in their possession, and to amend outdated legislation including the Historic Sites and Monuments Act and the Heritage Resources Act.

A Residential Schools Help Line 1-866-925-4419 is available 24 hours a day for anyone experiencing pain or distress as a result of their residential school experience.
