Welcome to our directory of authenticated southern First Nation owned businesses.
Here you will find the names, links, and other information about incredible entrepreneurs who are citizens of our 34 Anishinaabe and Dakota First Nations.
We encourage you to visit and support these on and off-reserve businesses as they create sustainable economic growth!
If you know of a business owned by a citizen of one of our southern First Nations that is not on our list, please let us know by emailing media@scoinc.mb.ca!
Southern Chiefs’ Organization recognizes the hard work and dedication of our First Nation business owners.
There is no denying the positive financial impact that First Nation entrepreneurs and people now have on Manitoba. The most recent data from a joint study by SCO, Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak Inc. (MKO) and Brandon University shows Indigenous peoples are creating tens of thousands of jobs, providing more than $1 billion in salaries, and contributing $9.3 billion to the provincial economy. Those numbers are irrefutable, and I am excited about the potential for continued growth.

Hot off the Presses
As part of small business week, we want to introduce you to Sean Rayland from Red Rebel Armour. This budding business owner’s family hails from Sagkeeng Anicinabe First Nation, and he is truly embracing his roots in everything he does. Sean says he is committed to cultural reclamation, reconciliation, and inter-generational healing through his designs and brand voice. He is even mentoring Indigenous youth involved with the criminal justice system by providing culture and employment opportunities to design and create inspiring Indigenized streetwear to awaken the warrior within. Sean, you are a true mentor and inspiration and we are honoured to share your entrepreneurial success story!

Bridging Gaps & Building Futures
As part of our celebration of First Nation entrepreneurs, we would like you to meet the incredible Cheryl Hoffman. For 14 years this citizen of Berens River First Nation has been at the helm of KC Dyslexic Learning Centre. Cheryl and her roster of tutors offer people living with dyslexia and their families the tools and training they need to overcome the hurdles they face. Statistics show that dyslexia has a disproportionate impact on First Nation people and the team at KC is dedicated to helping address that inequality. Cheryl, we honour you for your commitment to improving the quality of life for people in our communities!
First Nation Flow
A global pandemic is not enough to deter this entrepreneur! Tyrone McCorrister-Choken has just opened up his new barber shop 1st & Øriginals in Selkirk. The Peguis First Nation citizen has been cutting hair since he was 15 years old, and boasts members of the Winnipeg Jets as part of his growing client base. Tyrone grew up in south Winnipeg and had been quaffing folks mostly in the city. Now he’s proud to have opened the doors on as he says… “his 100% Indigenous owned shop.” SCO is equally proud of your accomplishments Tyrone.
