September 20, 2024

“Education will always be a key priority for SCO and our member Nations. The generosity of our sponsors every year shows they too understand the road forward is together as we all work toward reconciliation and a prosperous future.” – Grand Chief Daniels

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: September 20th, 2024

ANISHINAABE AND DAKOTA TERRITORY, MB — The Southern Chiefs’ Organization (SCO) is thrilled to announce that our seventh annual fundraising golf tournament was our most successful yet, raising more than $110,000 for annual and endowed scholarships that will be awarded to students from SCO-member Nations.

“This annual event sells out in days and has become a highly anticipated tradition, drawing together community members, local businesses, and passionate supporters who share SCO’s commitment to empowering First Nation youth through educational opportunities,” said SCO Grand Chief Jerry Daniels. ” By investing in education, we are providing a transformative pathway for our young people, opening doors that may have otherwise remained out of reach.”

The Southern Chiefs’ Organization is proud to announce 25 annual scholarships in celebration of its 25th anniversary, which will be administered by Indspire and post-secondary institutions in Manitoba.

In the last five years, SCO has created endowed scholarships at Red River College Polytech, Brandon University, Manitoba Institute for Trades and Technology, and Assiniboine College, and more are planned. These endowed scholarships are complemented by annual Indspire scholarships created by SCO and available for southern First Nation students attending any post-secondary institution.

The golf tournament was made possible by the generous contributions from our sponsors and participants.
