“Developing strategies and supporting the visions of the Anishinaabe and Dakota Nations to rise and grow their economics is a major goal in the work we do at the Southern Chiefs’ Organization,” stated SCO Grand Chief Jerry Daniels. “SCO is working with Southern Chiefs Economic Development to bring leading visionaries from across Turtle Island together at our forum for learning and networking opportunities.”

SCO and SCED’s upcoming Economic Reconciliation and Agriculture Business Forum will bring together leaders and economic development representatives from the 32 Anishinaabe and Dakota First Nations from southern Manitoba with Indigenous and non-Indigenous business leaders from various parts of Canada and the United States.

The two-day event will feature presentations from prominent business people and professionals who will share their experiences and insights on what economic reconciliation is and what it could be.

Our preliminary list of speakers includes Chief Tréchelle Bunn of Birdtail Sioux Dakota Nation, a second-year law student, former SCO Youth Chief, and one of the youngest Chiefs in Canada; Jim Ludlow, President of True North Real Estate Development; activist Max Osceola III, a member of the Seminole Tribe of Florida; and SCO Grand Chief Jerry Daniels, a member of Long Plain First Nation. Day two of the event will be emceed by Miss Universe Canada Ashley Callingbull, who is an actress, model, and activist from Enoch Cree Nation in Alberta.

“As a new Chief, economic development is a significant priority moving forward as the new leader for Birdtail Sioux Dakota Nation,” said Chief Bunn. “As we live through uncertain economic times, I am looking forward to building relationships and sharing and gathering knowledge at the Binasi: Economic Reconciliation Business and Agriculture Forum next month.”
