September 23 to 27: Free Lunch and learn
The National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation is offering free, virtual lunch and learn sessions leading up to the National Day for Truth & Reconciliation.
The daily, 50-minute sessions will feature a variety of speakers and give Canadians the opportunity to ask questions and engage in conversation.
Topics include:
- September 23: Health related impacts of the residential school system.
- September 24: Allyship and confronting unconscious bias.
- September 25: Impacts and addressing Indigenous identity fraud.
- September 26: A community perspective of United Nations Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
- September 27: How do we address the barriers to reconciliation?

September 25: Honouring Dr. Elder Mary Courchene
Celebrate Elder Mary Courchene’s enduring legacy in education on Wednesday, September 25 starting at 6 pm at the Seven Oaks Performing Arts Centre (711 Jefferson Ave).
The event will feature Coco Ray Stevenson with special guests Kevin Chief and Norman Chief Memorial Dancers, Leonard Podolak, The Wrigley Brothers (aka Double the Trouble) and Sweet Alibi.
- Doors Open: 6:00 pm – wine and cheese reception
- Event Starts: 7:00 pm – performances start

Blue Bombers Orange Shirt Game
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers will be hosting an Orange Shirt Game on Friday, September 27 at 7 pm at the Princess Auto Stadium in Winnipeg.
Fans are encouraged to wear their orange, Blue Bombers gear or shirts. There will be an Indigenous opening ceremony and a halftime show.

Waywayseecappo First Nation: Truth and Reconciliation Walk
Waywayseecappo First Nation is hosting a walk for awareness of Truth and Reconciliation and to honour the Every Child Matters movement!

There be 500 shirts given out and will be a free barbeque after the walk.

Sergeant Tommy Prince School: Orange T-Shirt Walk
The Sergeant Tommy Prince School is hosting an Orange T-Shirt Walk in recognition Orange Shirt Day and the Nation Day of Truth and Reconciliation on September 30th.
The walk will begin at the Sergeant Tommy Prince School Baseball Field at 10:30 am.
There will be unveiling of their new Orange Shirt and a barbeque following the walk.

Honouring Ceremony at Turtle Lodge
The Turtle Lodge will be hosting an event to honour Anishinaabe artist Henry “Chopper” Guimond and Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen for their collaboration on Astronaut Hansen’s Seven Sacred Laws Artemis II Mission Patch.
The event will be held on Saturday September 28, 2024 at 11 am in Sagkeeng First Nation, Manitoba.
All are welcome! Please bring a dish to share for the Potluck Lunch Feast.

Reconciliation Run: Birdtail Sioux Dakota Nation
The 2024 Reconciliation Run will take place on September 28.
The run, which is a half marathon (21.1 kilometres in length), will start at 9 am at the ruins of the original former Birtle Residential School, and conclude on Birdtail Sioux Dakota Nation.
Once all participants have made it back to Birdtail Sioux Dakota Nation, community members, volunteers, and participants are invited to a community gathering and feast.

Honouring the Truth: Minnedosa Reconciliation Event
Minnedosa invites you to a day of learning, reflection, and community as we honour the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action.
The event will feature live music, a powwow demonstration, an Indigenous market, and opportunities to connect with each other.

The Manitoba Museum is hosting Every Child Matters events for Orange Shirt Day on September 28 to 30 from 10 am to 4 pm each day.
The event will be held at the Manitoba Museum (190 Rupert Ave, Winnipeg) with free admission.

Join Anish Corporation and Pineridge Hollow for an evening Honouring Truth & Reconciliation – an Indigenous Art Gallery in The Forest Pineridge Hollow. Featuring local Indigenous artists, culture and community to honour the Residential School Survivors and their families.

Assiniboia Residential School (ARS) is welcoming Survivors and Intergenerational Survivors for a two-day reunion and memorial event from September 29th to 30th.

The Legacy Group is producing a documentary film about the Assiniboia Residential School Monument and Gathering Place. Survivors and Intergenerational Survivors are encouraged to share stories on-camera for our video archive and to share photos or other school memorabilia that can be scanned for our digital archive.

Wa-Say Healing Centre 4th Annual Orange Shirt Day Healing Walk and Pow Wow: Winnipeg
The Orange Shirt Day Healing Walk and Pow Wow will be held on September 30 to remember the children that didn’t make it home and honor the Survivors and their families.
Participants are asked to meet at the Oodena Circle at the Forks for a pipe ceremony at 10 am. The healing walk will begin at 11 am and make its way through downtown Winnipeg to the Canada Life Centre for the Orange Shirt Day Pow Wow.

National Truth and Reconciliation Pow Wow
The Sagkeeng Health Centre is holding a pow wow from 12 pm to 8 pm on September 30 at the Sagkeeng Anicinabe First Nation pow wow arbour.
The event is to recognize National Truth and Reconciliation Day and in honour of Indian residential school and Indian day school Survivors.
There will be a community feast at 5 pm.

NIRSM: Orange Shirt Day Event
The National Indigenous Residential School Museum of Canada (NIRSM) will be hosting an Orange Shirt Day event on September 30 at 212-5000 Crescent Road West in Portage la Prairie.
The plan for the event is as followed:
- 9:30 am: Reconciliation/Honor Walk
- 10:00 am: Opening Prayer and Ceremony
- 11:00 am: Welcoming Remarks – Guest Speaker
- 12:00 pm: Lunch
- 1:00-3:00 pm: Events
There will be a series of children activities held at the event, including painting, cultural teachings, bouncy castles, bouncy bumper balls and more.
The event is an opportunity for people to learn, share, heal and move forward.

Orange Shirt Day: Treaty Right to Education, Residential Schools And Reconciliation
The Treaty Relations Commission of Manitoba will be offering a guest speaker event at the Agowiidiwinan Centre on September 30th from 2 PM to 4 PM.
The event will be held at the Agowiidiwinan Centre with Treaty Commissioner Loretta Ross and Elders Philip and Florence Paynter as they discuss “treaty right to education, residential schools and reconciliation.”

Lake Manitoba First Nation: Truth and Reconciliation Pow Wow
Lake Manitoba First Nation will be hosting a Truth and Reconciliation Pow Wow on September 30th starting at 11 am.
There will be drum specials, dancers in full regalia, comedians, children’s activities, and guest speakers.
All attendees wearing a orange shirt will be entered into a draw for a 50 inch TV.

Gimli Day for Truth & Reconciliation
Gimli will be hosting a Truth and Reconciliation gathering on Monday, September 30 from 1 pm to 5 pm at the Gimli Park Pavilion.
The gathering will feature prayers, drumming, teachings, and music. There will also be free tea and bannock, along with other food services.

Virden Mural Dedication
On September 30, 2024 at 2:00 pm, the community of Virden will dedicate the town’s newest outdoor artwork located at 229 Seventh Avenue South to the Dakota Nations of the past, present and future.
In addition to the dedication ceremony, storyboards explaining key elements of the mural will be on display for review and reading.
Following the Dedication Ceremony, a reception will take place in the Sunrise Banquet Hall at 900 Fifth Avenue South.

September 30 to October 4: Brandon Truth and Reconciliation Week
The Riverbank Discovery Centre in Brandon, Manitoba, is holding various events for the week of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on their grounds.
• September 30, 12:00 PM: Orange Shirt Day Walk
• October 4, All Day: Sisters in Spirit Healing by the River day-long event to celebrate Indigenous traditions and offer a space for healing and reflection.
