Wehwehneh Bahgahkinahgohn: It is Visible
This blanket was commissioned by SCO and presented to dignitaries attending the historic announcement of the gifting of the iconic Hudson’s Bay Building in downtown Winnipeg to SCO. The white leather patch on the other side of this blanket is printed with the words: April 22, 2022: On this historic day, the Southern Chiefs’ Organization and the Hudson’s Bay Company demonstrate their desire to advance reconciliation and build a new future, with hope and opportunity for all.
This blanket was made on Anishinaabe and Dakota Territory for the Southern Chiefs’ Organization by Anishinaabe artist and designer Destiny Seymour.

The floral motif was inspired by the plants and medicines that sustain us, from Saskatoon berries, chokecherries and cranberries, wild roses, daisies, sage, and sweetgrass. The 34 flower elements honour the 34 First Nations SCO represents, in a design that mirrors the beadwork and embroidery of our Nations. The floral motif was created for SCO by designer Shaun Vincent of Vincent Design.
