“Mashkawizikwe – Strong Woman”
Eagle Woman Prints
2023
Poplar River First Nation
On loan from Leading Eagle Woman (Jenna Valiquette)
This print honours the strong women in our lives who have shaped us into who we are today. It is embellished with white Woodlands-style florals and cursive Anishinaabemowin writing. Valiquette combines a modern monoline illustration of a woman with traditionally Indigenous elements and language, effectively showcasing the act of “walking in two worlds” which First Nations people across Turtle Island take part in every day.
