On loan from Wendy Sinclair of Pretty Windy Designs
In my family, when a baby is born, we pass (give) tobacco to someone to ask in ceremony for the baby’s traditional name, colours, and clan. This will determine what ribbons to use on their ribbon skirts or ribbon shirts.
When my daughter was born, I was given in ceremony what her traditional name and colours were. She was given green, yellow, white, and blue. Green is her base colour, which will be the main fabric for her skirts and dresses. I then made her a matching ribbon skirt and jean jacket set.
