Supports for First Nation Veterans Impacted by Wildfires

With wildfires and a state of emergency impacting many First Nations and communities, the Southern Chiefs’ Organization (SCO) is sharing important supports available through Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) for First Nation Veterans and their families.

These supports are as follows:

Veterans Emergency Fund – Immediate aid for urgent, unforeseen needs impacting health and safety.

Mental Health Support

  • VAC Assistance Line: 1-800-268-7708 (24 hours a day, 7 days a week, up to 20 free sessions, culturally relevant counsellors available)
  • Treatment Benefits: 25+ mental health sessions each year for eligible Veterans. Family coverage available. To check eligibility, call: 1-866-522-2122
  • LifeSpeak: 24 hours a day, 7 days a week; health and wellness platform: www.lifespeak.com
