Media are invited to a press conference TODAY in response to concerns about Mi’kmaq fishers in Nova Scotia.
Indigenous leaders will speak outside of the Manitoba legislative building. While our organizations had originally hoped to host a march expressing solidarity with the Mi’kmaq fishers, Indigenous leaders in Manitoba are extremely concerned about the current rates of COVID-19 in Winnipeg and throughout the province.
In response, tomorrow’s event will now consist of a ceremonial Horse Spirit Ride, beginning with a drum song and prayer at the RCMP D Division, 1091 Portage Avenue in Winnipeg. We are asking members of the public to NOT attend the ceremony, however, members of the media are welcome.
The Oyate Techa Riders will travel to the Manitoba legislative building, where Indigenous leaders will address media about the issue of Mi’kmaq fishers and why it’s important to Manitoba citizens.
