This past summer from August 13th-16th, 2019; the Southern Chiefs' Organization, Grand Council Treaty #3 and Keeseekoowenin Ojibway First Nation came together to co-host the first ever 2019 Anishinaabe Nation Gathering. SCO Grand Chief Jerry Daniels, Grand Council Treaty #3 Ogichidaa Francis Kavanaugh, and Keeseekoowenin Ojibway First Nation Chief Norman Bone brought this idea to ceremony in Treaty 3 territory over a year ago for guidance and blessing. For months, Chiefs and staff worked together to plan the four-day gathering that would focus on Anishinaabe language, history, elders, women, and youth.
We were very honoured to take part in the planning and hosting of this event. Bringing together our people in the ways of our ancestors and celebrating Anishinaabe culture is something we do with pride. The big hearts and brilliance of our nation were on clear display throughout the week and we are very thankful for the hundreds of people who attended.
We look forward to other ways and opportunities to celebrate and promote the Anishinaabe nation in the future.
Please enjoy this video that captured some great moments from the gathering!
Shout outs to JUST TV at the BNC 🎬 for being with us at the 2019 Anishinaabe Nation Gathering and creating this video!
