Violence Prevention & Safety Planning

Southern Chiefs’ Organization is committed to promoting the safety of community members both on and off-reserve. The Violence Prevention and Safety Planning Policy Area  collaborates with key stakeholders and First Nations to address root causes of violence and plans of action to end violence.

Gender equality is critical in this area, as Indigenous women continue to be marginalized and endure inequality within Canadian society.

SCO recognizes all Indigenous women are beautiful, strong peoples. They are mothers, daughters, sisters, cousins, aunties, grandmothers, and most importantly leaders.

Traditionally women are valued for their sacred gifts and yet they face life-threatening, gender based violence and disproportionately experience violent crimes as a result of racism and gender discrimination.

The Violence Prevention and Safety Panning Policy Area focuses on empowering Indigenous women and to change socially constructed attitudes and misperceptions about Indigenous women as they continue to perpetuate violence and create institutional barriers in accessing resources. Through this dedication, SCO anticipates systematic changes by policy makers to prevent barriers, end violence and promote equitable rights for Indigenous women.
