Southern Chiefs’ Organization (SCO) representing 33 southern First nations has been granted funding through Status of Women Canada under the theme of “Funding to Advance Gender Equality in Canada”.

SCO will undertake a 3 year project titled, “Mino-Pimatisiwin”. The main goal of this project is to address system systemic barriers faced by incarcerated Indigenous women in Winnipeg and Southern Manitoba when reintegrating into society and accessing necessary services, such as housing and banking. In collaboration with Indigenous women, community stakeholders, including shelters and financial institutions and provincial partners, this project will develop and implement an action plan directed at revising policies, services, and procedures to provide more flexible, accessible, and culturally-appropriate services for Indigenous women.
