Call for Artistic Expressions

SCO is offering $5,000 for your Artistic Expressions

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: February 10, 2020

ANISHINAABE AND DAKOTA TERRITORY, MB — The Southern Chiefs’ Organization (SCO) is seeking the talent and creativity of Indigenous artists in Manitoba and the power of art to help bear witness to and end the violence against Indigenous women and girls and 2SLGTQQIA through a Call for Artistic Expressions.

Grand Chief Jerry Daniels states, “Our goal is to end violence by raising awareness while sending a message of hope, reconciliation, and resilience or conveying an expression of loss through art. By reaching out to Manitoba’s First Nation artists—especially those with ties to a southern First Nation community—we hope to express the humanity of this painful legacy while commemorating those who are missing or who have been murdered.”

Any form of visual art, from graphic design, to photography, or painting, is eligible. The art piece will be selected by a project advisory council and will be shared in the accessible public art gallery of billboards throughout Winnipeg and southern Manitoba this spring. The selected artist will receive an honorarium of $5000, or in the case the Advisory Committee recommends two artists, each artist will receive $2,500.

Deadline for submissions of Artistic Expressions is February 19, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. CST.
